-The purpose of this policy is to establish procedures governing the use of the Taney County Sheriff’s Office Firearms Training Range.

-It shall be the policy of the Taney County Sheriff’s Office that all personnel granted authorization to utilize the range shall exercise all due caution with regard to the safety of all personnel on the range as well as all persons in the vicinity surrounding the range. All personnel who participate in the handling and use of firearms at the range will adhere to the fundamentals of firearms safety at all times, and will follow all safe and proper directions of any Range Officer/ Firearms Instructor responsible for supervising/ conducting training at that time. Failure to adhere to safety standards will result in the violator being removed from the range immediately.

-  - Treat every weapon as if it were loaded and conduct a safety check before handling. 
-  - Control the muzzle direction of weapons in a safe manner.

-  - A certified firearms instructor must be present at all times during training exercises. The firearms instructor shall be obligated to monitor, supervise and enforce the following range rules: 
-  - Only commissioned law enforcement officers are allowed to use the range. 
-  - The discharge of firearms may only be made to the north, unless under the direct guidance of a firearms instructor. 
-  - Only targets authorized by the firearms instructor shall be permitted. However, in any event, the use of explosive targets is prohibited. (This does not prohibit the deployment of distraction devices (NFDDs) or other munitions during Special Response Team (SRT) training, for the purpose of certification training, etc, and under the direct supervision and authorization of the SRT Team Leader or Assistant Team Leader.) 
-  - Stand firm on the line facing down range when directed by the instructor. 
-  - Do not bend over with a handgun in your hand. 
-  - Do not bend over to retrieve anything from the ground until directed to do so by an instructor. 
-  - Eye and ear protection is required on the firing line during any live fire exercise. 
-  - Keep handguns holstered when not on the firing line and under the direction of an instructor. 
-  - Keep the muzzle pointed downrange during manipulations. 
-  - If you need to work on a firearm off the firing line, notify an instructor and perform all such actions in the designated area.

-Hours of operation for the range will be 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Use of the range on Saturdays shall be limited to required qualifications by law enforcement officers and shall not be used for practice. The range will be closed on Sundays and the following holidays: New Years Day, July 4th, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

-While all live fire training must be completed by 8:00 p.m., the use of non-lethal marking ammunition shall be authorized until 11:00 p.m. Any non-lethal marking ammunition used must be authorized by the Range Officer.
